OVO App

OVERVIEW

Case Study: OVO – Empowering Financial Literacy Through Design OVO, one of Indonesia’s leading digital wallet platforms, faced a key challenge: while digital payments were growing rapidly, financial literacy remained low among Indonesian users. Many struggled to understand saving, investing, and planning for long-term financial goals. Our task was to design a financial literacy experience within the OVO ecosystem that felt approachable, engaging, and easy to use—ultimately helping users make smarter money decisions. The team have done extensive research on the market, as well as user segregation. My role was to aid in this discussion and facilitate the visual direction of the application to make it more user friendly.

About the project

1. Solving Low Financial Literacy

Insight: Many Indonesians find finance intimidating and often hesitate to ask for help.

Solution:

We introduced friendly mascots as financial guides within the app. These mascots served as approachable companions that users could interact with to learn financial concepts, ask questions, and receive simple, contextual advice. By humanizing the learning experience, we made financial education less daunting and more relatable.

2. Easing Difficulty in Incentivizing Saving & Investing

Insight: Saving and investing feel abstract—users struggle to see the “why” behind financial discipline.

Solution:
We redesigned the UI to visually represent growth and progress.
Through dynamic progress bars, milestone animations, and goal-setting visuals (like a car, house, or travel destination), users could literally see their savings “grow” over time. This design encouraged users to build consistent saving habits through clear visual feedback and a guided, step-by-step journey.

3. Helping Users Navigate Money Goals Together

Insight: Financial goals are often shared—families or friends work toward mutual objectives but lack tools to collaborate.

Solution:
We designed a goal-sharing feature that allows users to quickly set, share, and track financial goals with others. This created a sense of community and accountability, helping users stay motivated while visualizing progress collectively.
